JUNE BOARD MEETING
The final Board meeting of this Rotary year will be held Tuesday June 10 at 7 p.m. at the Courtyard. This will be a wrap for President Lynn’s year. If you are a Board member, please have a summary of your year’s activities. If you cannot attend, please get your report to Lynn before the meeting. ALL members are welcome to attend. ( YES, that is p.m.!)
Scholarships Presented!
Four scholarships to graduating seniors have been awarded this year. After sorting through a record 11 applications and interviewing potential recipients, all very deserving, Cheryl and Robin narrowed down to four. Allana Denault, Newark Charter, received the $2,000 Digital Technology S/S in honor of Don Newcomb; Valeria Rey, Aspira Academy, received the $2,000 Nursing S/S in honor of Evelyn Hayes; and Emily Castro and Victor McLeod, both Aspira Academy, received $1,000 S/S. All have been invited to our annual dinner on June 19.
Clinton needs YOUR HELP!
Starting NOW – be co-chair for the Flags For Heroes project. Clinton has agreed to be chair again this year on the condition someone else steps up to be co-chair. Answer the call to service! A committee meeting will be immediately after the June 5 meeting. Please attend!
Tailgating Fun!
Want to join the fun, fellowship, and some adult beverages, with Newark, STAR, and Morning Rotarians tailgating before the UD football game on Aug. 28, please let Jamie Zingaro know before May 23. We need some level of commitment before reserving a tent.
Next District Grant
Our next application for a district grant will have two components: one Food Insecurity Globally and one Locally.  Globally will be the meal packing project with Rise Against Hunger. Not only will this provide 10,000 meals for school groups in an under privileged country, it will provide an opportunity to introduce youth to service. Our two Interact classes and IMPACT members will be invited to participate. Additionally, we will include a Food Insecurity Locally component focusing on supporting Delaware Dream Center with non-perishables and volunteer work.
Food Insecurity
A district task force committee is being established (thank you, Paul and Laurie for participating) to coordinate clubs’ activities around food insecurity. The committee will be looking for ways the clubs can work together, resources we can share, and locations that will best distribute to the community. It was mentioned at last week’s meeting that perhaps we could conduct a needs assessment and hold a “summit” with coordinators of the local food pantries and other groups so that information can be shared and more coordination arranged between the parties.
