Annual Dinner – June 19, 6-8 p.m.
It’s a night to celebrate the year, with highlights, awards, recognitions, and passing the gavel. If you have not yet responded to Robin, please do so ASAP. Bell will ring and buffet dinner will begin at 6 p.m. There will not be a cash bar in our room so please get your drinks from the bar in the lobby and bring them into our room. A special guest/friend will be in attendance along with recipients of our awards and scholarships. This will be President Lynn’s last official meeting before Past District Governor Jim Roney installs Jami and his leadership team.
Scholarships Presented!
Four scholarships to graduating seniors have been awarded this year. After sorting through a record 11 applications and interviewing potential recipients, all very deserving, Cheryl and Robin narrowed down to four. Allana Denault, Newark Charter, received the $2,000 Digital Technology S/S in honor of Don Newcomb; Valeria Rey, Aspira Academy, received the $2,000 Nursing S/S in honor of Evelyn Hayes; and Emily Castro and Victor McLeod, both Aspira Academy, received $1,000 S/S. All have been invited to our annual dinner on June 19.
Next District Grant Approved
Our next application for a district grant will have two components: one Food Insecurity Globally and one Locally. Globally will be the meal packing project with Rise Against Hunger. Not only will this provide 10,000 meals for school groups in an under privileged country, it will provide an opportunity to introduce youth to service. Our two Interact classes and IMPACT members will be invited to participate. Additionally, we will include a Food Insecurity Locally component focusing on supporting Delaware Dream Center with non-perishables and volunteer work. We have been awarded $5,000 (maximum amount) toward the $6500 project.
Club Annual Picnic “Christmas in July”
The club’s Annual Picnic will be held Thursday, July 31, from 6-8 p.m. at the W.L.Gore Pavilion off Papermill Road (at Louviers). The theme, Christmas in July, will be a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club that we have supported for several years. Silent Auction, music, great food and fellowship. Stu and some boys and girls will be in attendance. The club will supply the burgers and dogs. Everyone attending is asked to bring a picnic style covered dish to share. Laurie Williams has agreed to chair the picnic. A signup will be available shortly. Get it on your calendar NOW! There will NO MORNING MEETING that day. More details will come.
