We are so fortunate to have Stella Patino and Dr. Nelson Atehortua joining our forces. They are both Rotarians relocating from Mississippi. After searching around for a new home club, they found us. Welcome!
Zach Harris is also joining us! He has been actively engaged by creating an app that will help our many small food pantry volunteers talk to each other and share resources as well as food. Welcome, Zach!
Tomatoes, Tomatoes!
Eight member worked Saturday afternoon sorting tomatoes, not canned varieties, the real thing, fresh and some past their prime! Pallets full of cases of tomatoes and huge red and yellow peppers were sorted and bagged for clients of the Food Bank. Two hours of our work will be appreciated by those who have food insecurity! Join us next time and you will have a better appreciation of what it means to not have enough food to make dinner for your family!
Support for Global Grant Scholarship
Members received an email from District Governor Dale Kerns about supporting a scholarship for Simone Minor, a soon to be graduate from UVa. A Bear, Del. resident, Simone has been accepted at Kings College in London to study Maternal and Child Health, one of the areas of focus of Rotary. Because Simone lives in our area, our club has been asked to be the lead club of the global grant application. All clubs and members in our district 7630 are asked to pledge to support this grant. Our club has agreed to $1,000 to support her with several members making personal pledges. Jamie or Robin can give details on how you can supprt her.
Adopt A Park Cleanup Scheduled
To get more members engaged and be mindful of their schedules, Dan Seador has a monthly signup for trash pickup at the Resevoir, Preston’s Playground, and the new Old Paper Mill Road Park. Each month will have a co-chair who will schedule a team to do the trash pickup, report back to Dan, and take pictures. The signup will be attached in an email to all members. Please reply to Dan.

Nominations Now Being Accepted
Our club has always been successful in having a long line of succession of leadership. Some clubs do not have a president elect until right before the new Rotary year begins in July. The Nomination committee (Robin, Shawn, and Don) are now accepting nominations for 2nd. vice president in 2026-27 (becoming club president in July 2029). If you want to be considered, please see Robin for more info.
Changes in Annual Meeting
Instead of an Annual Meeting with dinner and awards, a new agenda will begin this year. Installation of officers for 2026-27 will be held at the morning meeting on June 11. Only internal awards to our club will be presented. The three awards usually presented( Community Service, Public Service, and Spirit in Business) will be presented individually at later meetings. This will give opportunity to highlight each award recipient rather than giving them a mere 30 seconds like we used to do.
Award Applications Available
Applications for the three special awards we present each year are now available. Please review each application and submit any nominees you have to the Rotarian who is the chair and named at the end. They will then review the applications with their committee, select one, and a meeting will be scheduled to present the award. Applications will be sent this week. No Rotarian is eligible for these awards but their business could be considered for the Spirit in Business award.
