Three awards need nominations
Our three annual awards need nominations. Without them we will not be able to recognize members of our community who exemplify our motto of Service Above Self. Nominate a long time non-Rotarian community volunteer for the Ray Civatte Community Service Award, a first-responder or officer for the Public Service Award, or a business that gives back to the community for the Spirit in Business Award. Applications are available.
City Council Meeting
Members are encouraged to attend the City of Newark City Council meeting on Monday, May 19 at 7 p.m. in Administration Building on S. Main Street. We will be presenting a proposal to install a Chair of Honor just outside of the building. You do not need to be a resident to attend. Wear your Rotary shirt!
Clinton needs YOUR HELP!
Wednesday, May 14 – need volunteers to spray around the FFH holes
Sunday, May 18 – assist with displaying flags at Memorial Ceremony prior to City’s Memorial Day parade
Starting NOW – be co-chair for the Flags For Heroes project.
Support our Supporters!
Join us at Home Grown on May 29 for a great meal and help our club earn money back from the restaurant at the same time. A percentage of meals on that evening will be divided between us and Newark STAR. There is no morning meeting that day so make it your UPSIDE DOWN Rotary day.
Tailgating Fun!
Want to join the fun, fellowship, and some adult beverages, with Newark, STAR, and Morning Rotarians tailgating before the UD football game on Aug. 28, please let Jamie Zingaro know before May 23. We need some level of commitment before reserving a tent.
Next District Grant
Our next application for a district grant will be the meal packing project with Rise Against Hunger. Robin, Ed Gossett, and Jamie Zingaro attended the District’s Grant Management Seminar on Saturday to make our club eligible to apply for a grant. Not only will this provide 10,000 meals for school groups in an under privileged country, it will provide an opportunity to introduce youth to service. Our two Interact classes and IMPACT members will be invited to participate as well as Bill Sullivan’s students.
Food Insecurity
A district task force committee is being established (thank you, Paul and Laurie for participating) to coordinate clubs’ activities around food insecurity. The committee will be looking for ways the clubs can work together, resources we can share, and locations that will best distribute to the community. It was mentioned at last week’s meeting that perhaps we could conduct a needs assessment and hold a “summit” with coordinators of the local food pantries and other groups so that information can be shared and more coordination arranged between the parties.
Nominations being Accepted
If you want to nominate a fellow member or yourself for 2nd vice president, secretary, treasurer, or Sgt at Arms for the 2025-2026 Rotary year, please submit the name(s) to Robin. Elections will be formally held at the June 12 meeting. The positions of president, president elect, and 1st vice president are already secured for next year.
