We’ve got a Foundation!

After years of talking about it, Clinton made it happen! Newark Morning Rotary Foundation is now official! Sponsors for Flags For Heroes will now be eligible for tax deductions!  Clinton is working on a separate credit card company for accepting Foundation money online.
Community Day Volunteers Wanted ! WATCH FOR SCHEDULE DUE TO WEATHER
Sunday, Sept. 27, from 10-4, The Green is the place to be seen. Thousands of Newarkers will turn out to see what’s happening. Even though we have two volunteers for each hour to be at our table, more members are always good to have around to talk with visitors about Flags For Heroes and other Rotary activities. Please make an effort to be there sometime during the day – or help with setup and breakdown.
Sign up to honor Evelyn!
Be part of our “Evelyn Hayes Walkers” team at Stars and Strides on Nov. 14. The 5K at Bloom Energy raises funds to support our military and families. You can run or walk with our team. Even Evelyn, at the age of 81 and fighting lung cancer, participated in the event. What’s your excuse?
FFH Sponsor Deadline
Deadline for payment and signup to be a sponsor of Flags For Heroes is Oct. 15. You can find the info at nmrde.org, look for Flags For heroes, then sponsorship and payment info. Ylou can pay directly on line or via check. Let’s get new sponsors!
Why donate to Flags For Heroes?
Yes, we all pay RI, district 7630, and club dues as well as voluntarily participate in 50/50 and Happy Dollars.  But none of this goes toward supporting the community. All of the profits from FFH goes directly to organizations that help those in need – our veterans, active duty military, youth, and future Heroes. Your business or company can be a sponsor, you personally can be a sponsor, or you can individually honor a personal hero with a flag. Last year we raised more than $30,000. See pages 26 and 27 in the 2026 Report to Our Community.
Want good Speakers?
This Rotary year Cheryl Ernst will be coordinating the monthly coordinators for weekly programs. Please volunteer one of the next 12 months to arrange two speakers. Cheryl has the calendar with dates available. If you can’t commit for 2 speakers but have a good one available, let Cheryl know and she can fill that person in one week of the schedule.
Oops! Have we lost community contacts?
Applications for the three special awards  we present each year have been available for 6 months with no applications. Please review each application and submit any nominees you have to the Rotarian who is the chair and named at the end. They will then review the applications with their committee, select one, and a meeting will be scheduled to present the award. Applications will be sent this week. No Rotarian is eligible for these awards but their business could be considered for the Spirit in Business award.
1)Ray Civatte Community Service Award (will be presented to a Newark Police officer for his service)
2)Public Service Award
3)Spirit in Business Award
Sept. 17 –  50/50 Winner: Jamie Zingaro
