The Fifth Question: Will it be fun?
You never know with President Clinton what we will do next. If you see a weekly program as “??????”, it could be planned as a speaker, a service project, a Fellowship activity, a special meal, or just plain FUN. Just come and be surprised!
Clothing Delivered
Thank you, everyone, for helping to make someone else more comfortable in their “new” clothes. Many bags and hangers were delivered by Steve Fangman and Clinton Tymes to the Clothing Bank for Friendship House/Empowerment Centers. The homeless and financially challenged around Delaware appreciate your help. See our Facebook page for pictures.
Community Day a Success!
Great day in Newark last Sunday as we participated in Community Day. Doris took the lead and had us greeting passersby, making birthday cards, playing cornhole, pushing Flags For Heroes sponsorships, and signing up potential members. Thank you, Doris, Bill, Paul and Eileen, Clinton, Ty, Mike R and Nichole, Shawn, and Robin.
Welcome our newest Members!
Amanda McGinty, with the UD Resident Ensemble Players, will be a Service Member.
The Vero At Newark will be a Corporate Member. Attending on behalf of Vero will be Frank DeMarinis, BJ DiDonato, and Terri Doody.
Returning to our fold is Tom D’Agostino, former members and now Director of Sales for the Courtyard.
The club extends to Linda Sayther, widow of our friend Paul, the opportunity to join us at events and whenever she desires as an Honorary Member.
Flags For Heroes
Last week was the kickoff for the 2022 Flags For Heroes fundraiser. In our first year 2018 we cleared $2,000 with about 150 flags flying, in 2019 we cleared $6,000. In 2021 we grew to 500 flags flying and had $20,000 in sponsorships. Yes, we had extra costs last year due to the purchase of about 350 additional flags. Now that we have the flags and will have little in expenses, our goal is $25,000 PROFIT. Proceeds will be going to veterans’ organizations. Visit our website www.nmrde.org for a video and info on sponsoring flags. We can’t do this alone, so ask friends and businesses to sponsor, too.
We Can Support Newark PAL, fellowship, and Show Newark WE ARE HERE!
Two years ago we supported the newly established Newark PAL with a district grant to supply games, videos, etc for the traveling PAL trailer. Today the Newark PAL has received a $10,000 grant to continue to outfit the trailer with shelving, storage, a new inflatable TV screen and other items to make the program even stronger as they travel around the city engaging with children.
A 5k walk/run to support Newark PAL will take place Sunday Sept. 25 beginning at 9 a.m. south of the Aetna Firehall on Academy Street. CAN WE ALL PARTICIPATE AND WALK TOGETHER TO SHOW THE STRENGTH OF OUR ROTARY CLUB? Just one hour of your time on Sunday morning. No stress. Just time to support PAL, a time for fellowship, and show the city of Newark we are HERE! Registration is just $19. There will be donuts and coffee at Klondike Kates following the walk/run. It’s an easy 3 mi route. Register and pay here for the Donut Dash:
