Remember the success of last year’s Flags For Heroes event? Clinton’s goal for this year is even greater – $30,000! As of last week, we had reached $28,500 in sponsorshipsThat means we need sponsors and individual flags sold. Reach out to your business, vendors, friends and neighbors with the opportunity to participate. Many locals say they didn’t know about the flags until reading about it in the Newark Post until IT WAS OVER! They were disappointed the flags were down. Let’s make them aware earlier this year. Cindi and Clinton have printed flyers or get one on our website nmrde.org. Just remember what we were able to do with the proceeds – support our veterans, first responders, and youth programs. .

Each flag will have a medallion with a hero’s name and their sponsor listed. Please get your individual flag hero names to Cindi Viviano ASAP. SPONSORS, DEADLINE FOR YOUR COMPANY’S HERO NAMES IS OCTOBER 24 TO CINDI.

It’s dictionary time! We give free student dictionaries to third grades in school around Newark. Lynn Mey and Mike Laur are co-chairs of the project. Mike has more than 800 dictionaries in his office waiting for YOU to tell Lynn Mey that you will be a contact person for one of our selected schools. As the contact person for that school, you call the school secretary for number of third graders enrolled, then arrange delivery to each third grade classroom. You need day, time, and ask for10-15 minutes per classroom for short presentation. Then you will pick up the cases from Mike’s office, put in the labels, and notify the club asking for volunteers to assist in delivery and presentations. If you’ve never done this before, volunteer to help! It’s a great day when you make the kids smile!

Delivery is scheduled for Thursday Oct. 30, 9 a.m. at Thurgood Marshall, check with Lynn Mey if you can help. OR Wednesday, Nov. 5 , 8:35 a.m. at McVey, check with Robin if you can help.

Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9-? Sign up with Robin so we know how many are coming. We will have student help from UD’s Rotaract.

Saturday, Nov. 8, 8-11 ish, Bloom Energy’s 5K at STAR campus. You don’t need to run,  most of us walk. Register for our team to support Bloom’s community service to support veterans.

Sunday, Nov. 9, 11 a.m. at the Reservoir. Attend our ceremony and lend a hand to those veterans and older attendees who need help walking on the grass to see their sponsored flags. Shawn will also need help with unloading and loading chairs.

Thursday, Nov. 20 during our usual meeting time. It’s Christmas in November instead of October!!! No, our calendar is not weird. We will hold a silent auction to raise funds to support the Rotary Foundation’s Polio Plus program. Typically held in October, we will shift to November giving everyone an opportunity to do early Christmas shopping. All funds that day will support the Polio Plus program. More details to come.
