We are celebrated Christmas in September on the 12th, in our regular meeting time. Through the Silent Auction, more than $2,647 was raised to support Boys and Girls Club in Rosehill, New Castle, for their holiday party with fun and games and many special gifts for the underpriviledged children. With the 50/50 and Happy dollars for the day, we will total about $ 2,791. Many thanks for those who donated as well as bid on the variety of auction items.  And who would have guessed our trivia guy himself, Mark Sisk, knew the modern-day country where St. Nicholas was born!

 

Don’t know what the Boys and Girls Club means to many kids? Just ask Clinton.

 

Remember the success of last year’s Flags For Heroes event? Clinton’s goal for this year is even greater – $30,000! As of last week, we had reached $23,750 in sponsorshipsThat means we need sponsors and individual flags sold. Reach out to your business, vendors, friends and neighbors with the opportunity to participate. Many locals say they didn’t know about the flags until reading about it in the Newark Post until IT WAS OVER! They were disappointed the flags were down. Let’s make them aware earlier this year. Cindi and Clinton have printed flyers or get one on our website nmrde.org. Just remember what we were able to do with the proceeds – support our veterans, first responders, and youth programs. The Chair of Honor is in construction mode and will be dedicated on Sept. 18, 5:30 at the City of Newark building. .

 

 

It’s dictionary time! We give free student dictionaries to third grades in school around Newark. Lynn Mey and Mike Laur are co-chairs of the project. Mike has more than 800 dictionaries in his office waiting for YOU to tell Lynn Mey that you will be a contact person for one of our selected schools. As the contact person for that school, you call the school secretary for number of third graders enrolled, then arrange delivery to each third grade classroom. You need day, time, and ask for10-15 minutes per classroom for short presentation. Then you will pick up the cases from Mike’s office, put in the labels, and notify the club asking for volunteers to assist in delivery and presentations. If you’ve never done this before, volunteer to help! It’s a great day when you make the kids smile!

 

Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. Register as a volunteer on fbd.org, then go to https:/vhub.at/nmrc3 to register for our time slot. We usually pack weekend meals for students or sort tons of donations.

 

Saturday, Oct. 4 , from 8-9 a.m. Signup with Dan Seador. Wear sturdy shoes, bring work gloves and come to Lighthouse Church, corner of Otts Chapel Rd. and Old Baltimore Pike. We clean about one mile of the highway in one hour or less.

 

Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9-? Sign up with Robin so we know how many are coming. Robin will need one volunteer with a truck or SUV who can help pickup 100 flags on Friday, Oct. 24 at 2:30, then help install those at top of reservoir on Saturday. We will have student help from Newark Charter High School.

 

Saturday, Nov. 8, 8-11 ish, Bloom Energy’s 5K at STAR campus. You don’t need to run,  most of us walk. Register for our team to support Bloom’s community service to support veterans.
