Weekly Bulletin May 28, 2020

May 28, 2020  Rotary Connects the World!

All club meetings will be conducted via Zoom until further notice. Please contact Robin at rbroomall@usa.net if you did not receive the Zoom link for this week’s meeting.

PLEASE NOTE:

Happy/Crappy Dollars? We are still accepting them weekly, but you need to keep track of them and pay up when we meet again in person. Remember the Four Way Test???

This Week’s Program

In honor of our Veterans and Our Heroes, celebrating Memorial Day, President Evelyn asks all veterans in our club to share their thoughts and stories of serving our country. Anyone else who would like to share a memory of their hero is also invited to share. Remember our time limit.

June programs to be announced next week.

Zoom Security

If you joined us last week, you noticed Bill S was not able to share his screen with everyone as we had done in the past.  As host, Robin double checked the settings, and last week Zoom had changed the default settings on what participants could/could not do without permission from the host. Robin has received weekly updates and newsletters from Zoom  as they continue to upgrade their security. Please do not share our Zoom meeting link with anyone unless you want them specifically invited to the meeting.

UPCOMING EVENTS (need your participation)

August 20 – date is tentative . Annual Installation/Awards Dinner at the Courtyard

Cards and letters have impact!

Our simple project to keep in touch with seniors and others shut in and alone at this time has spread far and wide, from Newark and Elkton to sunny Florida, the needs are the same. More than 500 cards/notes have been delivered so far.Let’s keep up the goal of 5 cards or notes per member per week to continue spreading positive messages to our community. Please sign your card and include our club name. Mike Luck will continue to deliver to local nursing homes, senior residents, and Lori’s Hands clients. Let’s get the second wave going!

Do you know someone who volunteers in Newark and really gives their heart and sole to their efforts? Submit applications to Marie Holliday.

Eagle Eyes read the Bulletin – and it will (might) pay off

Thank you to Mike Laur, Paul Keely, John Hornor, Bob Cronin, Polly Sierer, Marie Holliday, and Evelyn Hayes for reading last week’s bulletin carefully and answering the question “What is the story about on page 61 of the 2020 Report to the Community?” They will each get an extra 50/50 ticket when we resume meeting again in person. If you are still curious, the full 2020 Report is available on our website, nmrde.org.

Grant project for 2020-2021

The grant committee, chaired by Jerry Holt, is writing a proposal to support of the newly established Newark PAL program. In 2021 they will be getting a trailer that will travel to various playgrounds and sites around Newark, equipped with sports equipment, computers, small refrigerator, books, and giveaways for local children. Our part of the project will be to fund the equipment and giveaways.
