Our annual installation dinner is always a lot of fun, not only do we install next year’s officers but we present the awards for community service, public service, business award, vocational award, and our Rotarian of the Year. Family members are invited. A sign up will be circulated this week. So check with your family now.
Empowering Girls
The Ladies of Newark Morning Rotary once again supported our low-income and homeless girls at Glasgow High School with hygiene kits. 100 kits were delivered to the school nurses for distribution before school ends for the year. Also, at the request of the nurses, aluminum water bottles were purchased and will be distributed to students at the beginning of the new school year. The project was about $1,300. Thank you to everyone who made personal contributions.
Grant application submitted
Application for a district grant to Empower Girls by donating hygiene kits was submitted to the district last week. It requests $5,000 to help with the $8,500 project to provide hygiene kits to 500 girls in the five high schools in the Newark area as well as present programs to the girls at Glasgow and Aspira High School three times during the school year on Self Defense, Being Situational Aware, and Financial Literacy for Teens.
Are you registered in My Rotary?
If you have not been on the rotary.org website and registered yourself in My Rotary, please take time in the next few days to do so. If you have trouble logging in for the first time and need a password, it will be your RI number. Ask Robin if you need it. It is also at the top of your name on the mailing label for Rotary magazine. Starting in July all donations from our members to The Rotary Foundation will be made by Rotary Direct. You need to be in My Rotary to make that happen. We will have a training session in June and help you register.
Sign up for Rotary Direct
Beginning in the new Rotary year, all NMRC members are asked to make their Rotary Foundation contributions directly to TRF via Rotary Direct. Instructions will be provided. After June, contributions will no longer be invoiced by our treasurer. This will get your money to TRF faster, get your tax recognition faster, enable you to manage your contributions, and free up the responsibility from our treasurer.
Remembering Charlie Cox
Longtime member of our club and friend to Rotary, Charlie Cox, passed away in December. A Service of Remembering Charlie will be held Sunday, June 9, 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church on West Main Street. All are welcome to attend. Judy and their children will be happy to see you again.
