Committee Established to Coordinate Community Mentoring
Fair To All Concerned Taskforce (FACT) is a newly established club committee, under the coordination of Clinton Tymes, investigating ways our club can contribute to the Newark community as well as keep our members informed as to legislative actions that are pending. As beginning discussions have taken place, it was decided whatever we do should be meaningful and impactful. Over the next weeks, the committee will meet with leaders of other organizations within the Newark community and come up with an action plan to be shared with the club. The committee will share its mission and findings to date at the July 2 meeting. As the name implies, the taskforce will be mindful of ALL members and their points of view.
Cards and letters have impact!
More than 500 cards and notes have reached our seniors during time of shut in. Thank you, Michael Luck, for overseeing the first round of the project. Laura DelPerci’s is now coordinating the second round as well as pen pals for clients of Lori’s Hands.
Support our own.
Several years ago a specific line item was put into our budget to assist our own members in times of need. The Charitable Rotarian Assistance Program (CRAP) helps a fellow Rotarian who is dealing with challenges – financial or personal – when they need it most. The fund has been depleted over the years. If you would like to make a voluntary contribution to this fund, you can send a check made out to NMRC, with CRAP in the memo, to Treasurer Shawn Klapinsky or go online to NMRDE.org and make a donation. Please inform Shawn so he knows and can apply to the correct line item. The Board will make decisions on how the money will be dispersed.
Welcome Nancy Chase!
Welcome Nancy Chase who was confirmed as our newest member at last week’s Board meeting. Her membership will be effective July 1. Nancy is with The Grain on Main.
Board Actions
At last week’s Board of Directors meeting, the last for the Rotary year, the following money was dispersed to organizations that we had to reduce original donations from our budget. After final review of balance of treasury, additional money was available for: Newark Area Welfare Committee ($1,000); Iron Hill Museum ($500); Easter Seals campership ($1,800); Minutes For Soldiers ($500); Food Bank of Delaware ($700). Additionally the newly opening Sean’s House, a center for counseling, will receive a minimum of $865. If additional dollars come in from ad revenue, it will go to Sean’s House. We will hear more about that organization in the week’s to come.
