Committee Established to Coordinate Community Mentoring
A club committee, under the coordination of Clinton Tymes, has been established to investigate ways our club can contribute to the minority population in Newark. As beginning discussions have taken place, it was decided whatever we do should be meaningful and impactful. Over the next weeks, the committee will meet with leaders of other organizations within the Newark community and come up with an action plan to be shared with the club.
Cards and letters have impact!
More than 500 cards and notes have reached our seniors during time of shut in. Thank you, Michael Luck, for overseeing the first round of the project. Laura DelPerci’s is now coordinating the second round as well as pen pals for clients of Lori’s Hands.
Support our own.
Several years ago a specific line item was put into our budget to assist our own members in times of need. The Charitable Rotarian Assistance Program (CRAP) helps a fellow Rotarian who is dealing with challenges – financial or personal – when they need it most. The fund has been depleted over the years. If you would like to make a voluntary contribution to this fund, you can send a check made out to NMRC, with CRAP in the memo, to Treasurer Shawn Klapinsky or go online to NMRDE.org and make a donation. Please inform Shawn so he knows and can apply to the correct line item. The Board will make decisions on how the money will be dispersed.
Grant project for 2020-2021
The grant committee, chaired by Jerry Holt, has submitted a district grant application to support of the newly established Newark PAL program. In 2021 they will be getting a trailer that will travel to various playgrounds and sites around Newark, equipped with sports equipment, computers, small refrigerator, books, and giveaways for local children. Our part of the project will be to fund the equipment and giveaways. Christiana Club has agreed to participate and support our project.
