Remembering Evelyn

And we all thought WE were special to Evelyn. Turns out HUNDREDS, MAYBE THOUSANDS of people thought they were special in Evelyn’s eyes. Only now that she is no longer with us do we find out the breath and depth of her love and concern for every person Evelyn met, whether it was fellow nurses, teachers, Rotarians or that single person in a parking lot looking through a bin of free clothes. We are entertaining ideas how to memorialize her spirit of life, love, and service.

Relay For Life

For an emotional and promising evening, attend the Relay For Life event on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Connection Community Church, Summit Bridge Road, Middletown. What a wonderful opportunity for all of us to celebrate and remember the life of Evelyn Hayes. Evelyn endured the effects of lung cancer for 6 years. We have several other members who have had their lives touched by cancer, either personally or in their families and friends. We can each purchase and decorate a luminary (white paper bag) in the name of someone special, that will be lit with a candle at dusk. Very touching. Don Newcomb can provide more details. Let’s all get on his team!

We’ve got a Foundation!

After years of talking about it, Clinton made it happen! Newark Morning Rotary Foundation is now official! Sponsors for Flags For Heroes will now be eligible for tax deductions!  Clinton will give us more details.
Want good Speakers?
This Rotary year Cheryl Ernst will be coordinating the monthly coordinators for weekly programs. Please volunteer one of the next 12 months to arrange two speakers. Cheryl has the calendar with dates available. If you can’t commit for 2 speakers but have a good one available, let Cheryl know and she can fill that person in one week of the schedule.
LET’S GET THIS DONE ! Award Applications Available
Applications for the three special awards  we present each year are  now available. Please review each application and submit any nominees you have to the Rotarian who is the chair and named at the end. They will then review the applications with their committee, select one, and a meeting will be scheduled to present the award. Applications will be sent this week. No Rotarian is eligible for these awards but their business could be considered for the Spirit in Business award.
