Nov. 1 program:
Leading Youth Through Empowerment works with low-income African American and Latino middle schoolers to get them enrolled in top performing Delaware high schools and competitive colleges, with the ultimate goal of becoming successful adults. Started by Ankur Arya, with only 10 students, the program now has 120 enrolled in a program that includes personal mentoring, rigorous teaching, and leadership. The mentors advocate for the students when they get into the higher performing high schools, setting them up with tutors, help with college applications, prep for SAT’s, and some financial assistance.

World’s Greatest Meal RAISES RECORD FUNDS
Many thanks to everyone who participated in last week’s World’s Greatest Meal Silent Auction and additional fund raiser. A total of $2183 was raised to support the Rotary Foundation’s PolioPlus program. There were lots of items for the silent auction that highlighted the talents of our members. Kudos goes to those who did the bidding and outbidding to bring the numbers up to record levels!
Foundation Awards Received
At the District Foundation Dinner last Friday, our club was recognized with several awards earned during the 2017-18 Rotary year, under the direction of Josh Martin. We were recognized for being one of only 1,575 clubs worldwide to achieve Top Three in Per Capita Giving, one of only 3,425 clubs worldwide to achieve Every Rotarian Every Year, and one of only 4,000 clubs worldwide to become 100% Foundation Giving Club. Remember: there are more than 35,000 clubs worldwide. And we were one of only 10 clubs in our district to receive the Presidential Citation for last year. Well done!!!
Also, thank you, Fred Dawson, for being the presenting sponsor of the Foundation Dinner.
Downes Homework Club – After a conversation with Chrissy at Newark Parks and Rec, we are assured the program is “back on track.” Please sign up to tutor a youngster on Mondays and Thursdays, 3:45 – 5 p.m.
