Program for June 18
Our speaker today was Dan Bottomley from Institute for Global Studies at UD. Their three main areas focus on 1. study abroad (the oldest study abroad program in the country!), 2.developing world-wide partnerships with other universities, and 3. global outreach, where they bring people to UD for short-term leadership programs. These programs are highly competitive, bringing graduate level students and young professionals from the Middle East and North and Sub Saharan African countries to Newark to study civic leadership. We look forward to having some of these students visit our meetings again this summer.

Saying Good-bye

Several members have left our fold or been terminated due to lack of attendance. Mac Nagaswami is living and working in Wilmington now and our location is not convenient for him. Dallas Leveroni will be relocating to California in August to begin school. Dan Spinosa, Steve Waidley and Ryan German have commitments that do not allow them to attend meetings.

Who got our Food?

The 10,000 meals that we packaged on May 9, along with the UD students in Bill’s program, have been shipped in a container totaling 285,120 from the Philadelphia warehouse to a Stop Hunger Now in-country partner Convoy of Hope in Haiti. Convoy of Hope and Mission of Hope together currently serve more than 50,000 meals per day to children in schools and orphanages across Haiti. We helped to make some children’s day just a little bit better!

Thought for the Week:

Not taught in any Science class: The Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you will have to pee.

Can’t make our meeting?

I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.

All Rotarians are welcomed to attend another club’s meeting. Be prepared to pay for your meal and bring the makeup slip back to our secretary for attendance and invoice credit.
