Program for July 9
What does giving to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) do for us? Rotary is an international organization doing good around the world with its humanitarian programs. That takes money. When we give to the Annual Fund of TRF, that money is held for three years, earning interest. Three years later half of that money is used for world programs (humanitarian projects, matching grants, etc.). The other half comes back to our district where is it used for local projects, club grants, scholars, youth exchange and more. This is where our club has gotten more than $26,000 over the last 7 years for our grant projects. To learn more about Rotary and how your money is used, visit www.rotary.org.

Our Membership Commitments:

As members of Newark Morning Rotary Club, we each made two specific commitments when joining: financial and attendance. We all know to pay our bills on time! But here is a reminder of our obligation to attendance:

Club meetings are held weekly; you are encouraged to attend 100% of the meetings. However, if you cannot attend a meeting, you have the opportunity to make-up a missed meeting two weeks before to two weeks after the missed meeting at another club meeting anywhere in the world. Turn the make-up slip in to our club secretary for credit. You must attend 50% of the meetings in your home club. Attendance at other designated Rotary functions (District meetings, club picnic, etc.) will be counted as make-up opportunities. Also, having missed 4 meetings in a row, without any make-ups or excuses given to the club president, can be reason for dismissal from the club membership, upon the decision of the Board of Directors.

Let’s all strive for perfect attendance in 2015-16. If you need help in finding a make-up location, ask Robin.

Who is Paul Harris?

Paul Harris started this wonderful organization with a simple invitation to some fellow businessmen to come and have a weekly discussion on issues they were facing in their community. Little did he know it would turn into a worldwide organization with more than 1,300,000 members. We continue his legacy today with contributions to The Rotary Foundation. In turn we as individuals are recognized for our contributions to the Annual Fund:
Paul Harris Sustaining – contribute at least $100 a year
Paul Harris Fellow – accumulate $1,000 in contributions
Paul Harris Society Member – contribute at least $1,000 per year

Thought for the Week:

Not taught in any Science class: The Law of Gravity: Any tool, nut, or screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible place in the universe.

Can’t make our meeting?

I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.

All Rotarians are welcomed to attend another club’s meeting. Be prepared to pay for your meal and bring the makeup slip back to our secretary for attendance and invoice credit.
